In support of the launch of the Scenic Maryland initiative, promoting the adoption in Maryland of “best practices” and strategies used in other states to encourage greater scenic conservation.

For general operating expenses to support the continuation of outreach efforts designed to fight sprawl and preserve Maryland’s natural resources while encouraging controlled economic growth. These efforts will focus on the dissemination of recent reports, maps and technical assistance materials developed to educate new legislators, county officials and interested citizens on the long-term benefits of Smart Growth policies, historic tax credits, urban revitalization strategies, and preservation of vulnerable and valuable natural resources.

For the design and print of the Legal Handbook, a guide to issues related to land-use legislation for citizens interested in familiarizing themselves with the political process and land use litigation.

For the cost of developing a County Score Card, measuring efforts to abate sprawl, and publishing a guide to issues related to land-use legislation. This guide is being written for activists who are interested in familiarizing themselves with the political process and land use litigation.

Baltimore Police Foundation

$50,000 / 2001 / Environment
In support of the Environmental Crimes Unit Campaign Against Illegal Dumping, including prosecution of offenders and the establishment of a “tip line” to encourage citizens to report illegal dumping. This effort will target ten “hot spots” that have been identified as chronic dumping sites for commercial debris and illegal contaminants.
