Up2Us Sports
Up2Us aims to engage, train and support sports coaches to transform youth, programs and communities. The organization partners with AmeriCorps to offer year-long coaching placements with schools and community programs as a service learning opportunity. This grant will help subsidize the cost-share for community-based programs that operate in-person programming so that they are able to hire a high-quality coach.
Youth Empowered Society, Fiscally Sponsored by Maryland Philanthropy Network
The YES drop-in center serves homeless youth ages 14 – 25, providing counseling, peer support, connections to resources, and a safe place for youth to meet their basic needs for food, clothing, laundry facilities, and access to phones and computers, among other things. YES staff and partner agencies provide employment counseling and job placement support; housing assistance; case management; assistance accessing public benefits; access to health care; legal services; and leadership development opportunities. This grant will support the construction and relocation costs associated with the YES Center’s move to a new, larger building that will better meet the needs of the youth it serves.
B’More Clubhouse, Inc.
B’more Clubhouse is certified as a psychiatric rehabilitation program. It operates like a community center, where members have the opportunity to build a structure and support system that helps them obtain employment, further education, and affordable housing. As Clubhouse members, program participants contribute to the decision-making and implementation of all Clubhouse operations. This grant supports B’more Clubhouse’s general operations.
Drink at The Well – Hon’s Honey Social Enterprise
Drink at the Well operates a drop-in center that serves vulnerable women in the Curtis Bay community in South Baltimore. The center offers case management, mentoring, financial literacy education, food, clothing and flexible financial assistance in a community that has few resources. In 2018, Drink at the Well launched a social enterprise known as Hon’s Honey, which sells locally-sourced honey and honey-based skin care products and provides employment opportunities for women in The Well’s mentoring program. This grant provides operating support for Hon’s Honey.
Homeless Persons Representation Project, Inc.
Homeless Persons Representation Project (HPRP) provides free legal services to homeless individuals throughout Maryland. This grant supports HPRP’s Homeless Youth Initiative, which provides direct representation to unaccompanied homeless youth on a range of legal needs, and advocates for policy solutions to youth homelessness in Maryland.
