Challenge grant toward expansion of the Hand in Hand pre-release and re-entry program for juveniles in Baltimore City. The intent of the program is to ensure that participants are enrolled in an educational program and attain employment within a month of release, and that 80 percent of participants receive their GEDs within 18 months of enrollment.

For additional costs related to the installation of a sprinkler system for a housing facility serving eight women recovering from addiction.

Alternative Directions, Inc.

$56,000 / 2011 / Criminal Justice and Addiction
Toward support of staffing for the Hand in Hand Baltimore mentoring/re-entry program serving juvenile male offenders charged as adults. The organization provides wrap-around mentoring, as well as mental health, academic, and job-training services leading to a successful transition. The goal is to work with 30 incarcerated youth in their pre-release program, and 15 in the re-entry program.

To cover overdue utility bills and rent for a supportive housing program serving homeless women and their children.
