Banner Neighborhoods Community Corporation
Banner Neighborhoods provides low-income senior and disabled homeowners with home repairs, handicap modifications and tasks that involve climbing ladders or require heavy lifting. Relieving homeowners of the cost and difficulty of completing home repairs and maintenance enables them to age in place and retain their community ties and social networks. The exterior house improvements, and in some cases tree and vine removal in yards, are critical to keeping senior’s home compliant with code, avoiding environmental citations and municipal fines that unpaid can lead to tax sale and loss of a home.
Baltimore Green Space
Baltimore Green Space (BGS) is Baltimore’s environmental land trust. It promotes vibrant neighborhoods and a healthy environment through land preservation, research, and community advocacy. This grant provides support for BGS staff efforts to coordinate forest care education to at least 300 Baltimore City residents through workshops and continue to study the value of forest patches for storm water management, heat island effects, wildlife, and climate resilience.
Beloved Community Services Corporation
Beloved Community Services Corporation, led by Rev. Alvin C. Hathaway, aims to provide the tools necessary to bridge the knowledge, economic, educational, digital and political gaps that cause many of the social issues that plague Baltimore. This grant is in support of conducting research on Baltimore City residents’ attitudes on public safety initiatives, with the goal of improving safety and security in Baltimore City.
Maryland Hemp Education Corp.
Maryland Hemp Educational Corporation was newly formed to provide the public with research, information and educational resources on industrial hemp and to promote the development of a hemp industry in Maryland. Recent changes in law allows the cultivation and sale of hemp, a crop with wide ranging uses and applications including rope, fabrics, paper, insulation and construction materials, as well as food and beverage products. Education and outreach efforts will include creation of a website, sponsored training and navigating the regulatory process for growing and processing hemp.
Banner Neighborhoods Community Corporation
Banner Neighborhoods and Southeast Community Development Corporation are teaming up to ensure a fair, accurate and inclusive 2020 Census count among hard to reach populations of imigrants and seniors in neighborhoods in Southeast and East Baltimore. Outreach efforts include an awareness campaign in schools, door to door visits, presentations at senior centers and senior housing communities, along with Spanish language radio advertising and public service announcements.
