The formal hiring center, where day laborers can have a safe, organized way of finding work rather than waiting on a street corner, will enable more than 250 workers a month to find temporary jobs, 100 workers to find permanent positions, and more than 500 workers to obtain identification cards.

For continued funding of the Baltimore Worker Employment Center for day laborers and low-income workers. The formal hiring center offers a safe and organized way to help workers find jobs in construction, landscaping, home improvement, sanitation, and other day-to-day low-skilled physical labor-intensive jobs. The center provides a place to receive workplace rights education, health and safety training, legal counseling, basic vocational training, and identification cards.

The Baltimore CASH Campaign—Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope—was launched in 2001 to increase access to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a powerful work incentive and poverty-alleviation tool, lifting more families out of poverty than any other federal aid program. Now a program of the CASH Campaign of Maryland, Baltimore CASH plans to serve 7,500 Baltimore residents in 2022 by operating 11 free tax preparation sites.

The CASH Campaign of Maryland (CASH) promotes economic advancement for low-to-moderate income individuals and families in Baltimore and across Maryland. Since 2001, CASH has worked to increase access to the Earned Income Tax Credit, a powerful work incentive and poverty-alleviation tool, lifting more families out of poverty than any other federal aid program. With funding from the Abell Foundation and others, CASH provides 10,000 Baltimore City households with free tax preparation, supporting 18 to 20 free tax preparation sites throughout Baltimore. CASH also works to build the assets of low-wage tax filers by providing financial education and coaching. CASH is also working to establish an Office of Financial Empowerment within Baltimore City government.
