Moveable Feast prepares and delivers nutritious meals to individuals who are medically-compromised and have HIV, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses.  In addition to providing home-delivered meals, Moveable Feast provides meals for drop-in centers and substance use treatment programs, nutritional therapy and medical transportation for clients with specific needs, and operates a culinary arts job training program.  This grant funded the purchase and installation of a new walk-in freezer to expand Moveable Feast’s frozen storage capacity and enable it to serve more clients.

Founded in 1989 as a volunteer-led organization providing home-cooked meals to people with HIV and AIDS, Moveable Feast is now the leading provider of home-delivered, medically tailored meals for people with chronic health conditions in the Baltimore region.  The organization delivers approximately 550,000 meals annually to individuals who are medically compromised and have diseases that are impacted by nutrition.  Moveable Feast is an active participant in the national Food Is Medicine coalition, an association of nonprofit food and nutrition service providers that collaborate to advance public policy, promote research, and share best practices on the provision of medically tailored meals and nutrition education.  This grant provides general support for Moveable Feast’s operations.

Founded in 1989 as a volunteer-led organization providing home-cooked meals for people with HIV and AIDS, Moveable Feast is now the leading provider of home-delivered medically tailored meals for people with chronic health conditions in the Baltimore region. The organization delivers approximately 500,000 meals annually to over 1,300 individuals who are medically compromised and have diseases that are impacted by nutrition. In addition, 40% of its clients receive medical nutrition therapy to help them make lasting changes to their diets to support improved health. Beyond direct services, Moveable Feast is an active participant in the national Food Is Medicine coalition, an association of nonprofit food and nutrition service providers that collaborate to advance public policy, promote research, and share best practices on the provision of medically tailored meals and nutrition education. This grant provides general support for Moveable Feast’s operations.

Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, Inc.

$35,000 / 2011 / Health and Human Services
Toward support of the Center for Pediatric Weight Management and Healthy Living, which serves overweight and obese children in Baltimore City and surrounding areas. To address the increasingly serious problem of childhood obesity, the center provides health and nutrition education and medical support to those children and their families who are referred by pediatricians. The participants are assessed on various fitness measures, including weight, body mass index, blood pressure, and insulin levels.
