Baltimore HealthCare Access, Inc.

$56,000 / 2006 / Health and Human Services
Two-year funding for the implementation of Project HEALTH, an initiative to place college student volunteers in public health settings to serve low-income families in Baltimore City. Comprehensive family help desks at two clinics will be staffed by trained student volunteers who will work with families to provide access to needed services and resources.

Parks & People Foundation

$60,000 / 2006 / Health and Human Services
For continued support of the Hooked on Sports program serving at least 1,100 Baltimore City public school students in grades 4 through 12. Along with coaching and tutoring, participants receive training in the fundamentals of organized sports, teamwork, and fair play. The coaches monitor participants’ academic achievement and school attendance.

Advocates for Children and Youth (ACY)

$66,000 / 2005 / Health and Human Services
For expenses related to the expansion of Baltimore City’s Child Welfare Reform Program. ACY will conduct a “gap analysis” to identify and quantify the need for additional resources to reform the Baltimore City child welfare system, review progress, maintain pressure for reform, and advocate for overhaul of the child welfare data collection and responding system.

National Heritage Foundation/B-SPIRIT-A2Y

$15,200 / 2005 / Health and Human Services
For support of the B-SPIRIT-A2Y after-school mentoring and tutoring program for at-risk adolescents in the Park Heights community.

AIDS Interfaith Residential Services, Inc.

$27,500 / 2005 / Health and Human Services
To develop a Comprehensive Youth Services Model for homeless youth and young adults. This program will provide transitional housing, educational and employment training, health care, substance abuse treatment, financial education, and life and social skills counseling. The model is based on national state-of-the-art practices.
