A report by the Maryland Out-of-School Time Network on opportunities for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programming in Baltimore City.

How many STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs are there in Baltimore City? Where are they? What are the gaps that exist in that programming? In the spring of 2014, the Maryland Out of School Time (MOST) Network undertook a five-month effort to research and report on STEM opportunities in Baltimore City. Through a dozen key stakeholder interviews, public data-mining, and participation in STEM work groups and collaboratives, MOST produced “Landscaping Baltimore’s STEM Ecosystem.” The report provides a collection of materials designed to map the current STEM offerings and lay out a direction for future work.

“Landscaping Baltimore’s STEM Ecosystem” includes:

  • A narrative based on the synthesis of survey data and the key stakeholder interviews conducted within the school system
  • MOST’s recommendations for Baltimore’s STEM Ecosystem
  • A Baltimore City STEM Directory, featuring 91 STEM opportunities
  • A school-by-school directory with all 195 Baltimore City Public Schools, 30 in school STEM programs, 18 out-of-school time programs, and 15 STEM competitions (SY 2013-2014)
